Sophie Spider Spins!

This February I was contacted by Highlights High Five Magazine to create a 3-Dimensional Illustration for the September Issue. The spread titled Sophie Spider Spins is a letter look and find page. The target audiences of this magazine are pre-school children so the hidden letters had to be pretty obvious and rather out in the open.

I created two images for the art director. The first image created has a lot of depth and the colors are bit less saturated. The second image is very in focus and the colors are extra intense being more saturated. While the first illustration appeals to me more the second was chosen because High Five felt it more suitable for a young audience.

The September issue of Highlights High Five is now available! I was sent my complimentary copies at the beginning of this month and am very please at the image print quality. I was tickled to see I share the issue with another Stratford, WI illustrator Bonnie Leick! She used to babysit my older brothers! I’m so grateful to have illustrated for this magazine and hope to work for them again in the future!

Wanted to draw a really quick Wacom illustration for practice tonight. Here's what I came up with.

V1 Cover Contest.

Volume One is having a cover contest! There are only a few rules, the hardest one being that you have to create your art directly on the newsprint magazine while leaving the V1 tile visible. As far as cover subject matter and mediums, that’s let up to the artist. This illustration was created using acrylic paints, ink and graphite.

Chalking it Up with the Kids.

Erik and I sure been creating a lot of sidewalk chalk drawings this summer! We were asked to be visiting artist at the American Luther Retirement Home last week. Our job was to lead a group of artful daycare kids and help them fill the Retirement Home’s sidewalk full of drawings. Here are a few images from the event.
